Dr Walker is the Founder and Chief Economist of Asianomics Group Limited and was previously Chief Economist at CLSA, the HK based Asian-focused broker, where he was ranked #1 regional economist for 11 years in a row by Asiamoney.
He has developed an approach to analyzing economies, primarily in the Asian region, based on profit and credit cycles. This approach allowed him to call early the upswing in the Indian stock market; in June 2014 he published a research note: ‘Everybody Hates India: Time to Buy’, and was one of the very few major economists at that time going against the ‘structural’ consensus.
Before coming to Asia, he worked in his native Scotland as a research fellow at the Fraser of Allander Institute for Research on the Scottish Economy, and then at The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Edinburgh headquarters. At the latter he covered the Scottish and US economies for the bank as well as the oil industry. Between 1998 and 2002 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
Dr. Walker holds a PhD in Economics and BA from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
